Welcome

An Introduction to The Dim Knight's Most Globetrotting, Time-Travelling, Completely-Out-of-Control Adventure Yet!

Ahoy, Brave Adventurer!

You made it to Book 3. You survived the Kingdom of Confusington. You survived the time travel. And now — just when you thought things couldn't possibly get any MORE ridiculous — everyone has decided to get on a boat.

A boat called The Floating Disaster. Obviously.

If you are joining us for the first time: welcome to the madness. Dim Knight is still brave, still loyal, and still has absolutely no idea what he is doing. Gerald the Dragon still farts at the worst possible moment. Glitterbane the unicorn is still grumpy (though slightly less grumpy than before — not that she would ever admit it). And the four witches — Which Witch, That Witch, Who Witch, and Sand Witch — are still the most confusing support team in the entire history of adventuring.

But this time, there is someone new on board.

Hiding in a pickle barrel.

Covered in pickle juice.

Grinning with forty-seven troll teeth.

His name is Kevin. He is a baby troll who very much was NOT supposed to come on this voyage. But here he is, and frankly, the adventure is significantly better for it.

In this book, the crew of The Floating Disaster will sail to a Really Weird Island with exploding beans and dancing flowers, sink to the bottom of the ocean, have a rematch with the impossibly perfect Knights of Proper Land (spoiler: chaos wins), slide through the entirety of Slime Land, accidentally befriend every single monster in a Haunted Castle, track down Santa Claus in the middle of July, run a summer camp that goes spectacularly wrong in every possible direction, crash-land in the age of dinosaurs, confuse the entire Roman Empire, cause a scene in the Wild West, and then throw the biggest, most ridiculous party in Confusington history.

All in ten chapters. No pressure.

How to Play Your Part

This book works exactly the same way as Books 1 and 2 — which is to say, it requires your brain, your best silly thinking, and absolutely zero common sense.

📱 Interactive HTML Digital Version: Click or tap your choices when you reach a puzzle or a fork in the road. Ten puzzles are hidden across the ten chapters — one waiting at the end of every single chapter. If you get one wrong, a funny (and slightly embarrassing) thing will happen and you can try again. There is no Game Over. There is only "try a different kind of stupid."
📖 Print Version: Keep a pencil handy. Track your inventory items — Pickle Juice Points, Soggy Sandwiches, and Fart Fuel Levels — in your Adventure Backpack at the front. When you reach a puzzle, follow the node numbers. Do NOT just read straight through or you will miss the whole point and also probably end up in Slime Land with no escape route.

The Golden Rules of the Voyage

  • Trust Kevin. In Books 1 and 2, Dim Knight was technically the hero. In Book 3, a baby troll stowaway covered in pickle juice is quietly doing a better job than everyone. Follow his lead.
  • Chaos beats logic. Every time. The Conga Gassy Grid will not yield to sensible thinking. Neither will a confused whale, a three-foot-tall vampire lord, or a Roman Emperor who has just been asked about the topology of a time sandwich. Think sideways.
  • Sand Witch has a sandwich for every occasion. Courage sandwich. Boredom sandwich. "Finding Santa" sandwich. "THE END" sandwich. This is important and you should know it going in.
  • If in doubt, Gerald will fart. It is not always helpful. It is always inevitable.

Dim Knight has polished his helmet (on the wrong way round), Kevin has finished his pickle juice, and somewhere in the distance a field of flowers is doing the conga.

All aboard The Floating Disaster.

Let's go cause some absolutely wonderful trouble.

Set sail — if you dare!

Chapter 21

Sailing to the Really Weird Island

The Kingdom of Confusington had a problem.

"I'm BORED!" announced Gerald the Dragon, lying upside down on the castle roof.

"I'm ALSO bored!" agreed Glitterbane, though she said it grumpily because she said everything grumpily.

"Which weeks?" asked Which Witch. "THOSE weeks!" said That Witch. "WHO had weeks?" asked Who Witch. "Want a boredom sandwich?" asked Sand Witch. "What's IN a boredom sandwich?" asked Dumb Knight. "Nothing. That's what makes it boring."

Princess Chandamel sighed. "Why don't you all go on a VOYAGE? Explore the world? Find NEW places to be useless?" Everyone gasped. This was the BEST IDEA EVER!

The King provided a ship called "The Floating Disaster" (named after Dopey Knight's last attempt at swimming). The crew included the four knights, Gerald, Glitterbane, Dodderick the wizard, all four witches, Sebastian the Talking Sausage, and the Pillow Ghost.

Nobody noticed the VERY suspicious barrel that kept giggling.

Three days into the voyage, the barrel burst open. "SURPRISE!" shouted Kevin, the baby troll — covered in pickle juice and grinning with all forty-seven troll teeth. "I wanted an ADVENTURE! Mummy and Daddy said no, so I HID!"

Before anyone could decide to turn back, Dodderick shouted from the crow's nest: "LAND HO! I mean, I THINK it's land! It might be a very large whale! Or a cloud! Or my imagination!"

It was NOT his imagination.

The Floating Disaster setting sail — four knights on deck, Dozy asleep in rope coil, Glitterbane grumpy through porthole, dragon on the side

The Floating Disaster sets sail — Dozy is already asleep and they haven't left the harbour

Before them rose the REALLY WEIRD ISLAND. The beaches were purple. The palm trees were upside down. And everything was making strange noises.

The moment they stepped onto the purple sand, a bush exploded. "AAAAHHHH!" screamed everyone. "That was just a greeting!" said a tiny voice. A small bean with legs hopped out of the smoking crater. "Welcome to Weird Island! I'm Barry the Exploding Bean! Sorry about that! I explode when I'm excited! And I'm ALWAYS excited!" BOOM!

Barry gave them a tour. The Flying Cucumbers zoomed overhead — "WHEEEEE! WE'RE VEGETABLES AND WE'RE FLYING! NOTHING MAKES SENSE!" One crashed into Dopey Knight's backwards helmet and got stuck. "I can't see!" said Dopey. "You couldn't see BEFORE," pointed out Dozy Knight.

Then they met the Dancing Flowers. Gerald tried to join the conga line but tripped over his tail and farted. PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! The flowers stopped. "It's BEAUTIFUL!" sobbed a sunflower. "The most HONEST dance move I've ever seen!" Soon the entire flower field was dancing AND farting. POOT! POOT! POOT! Glitterbane rainbow-farted in embarrassment. The flowers went CRAZY.

The Screaming Trees were less friendly — "AAAAAAHHHHHH!" Barry translated: "They say you have lovely faces!" And the Singing Ladybugs sang a song about Gerald farting before he'd even done it.

"How did they know?!" gasped Gerald. "🎵 We know all things, we're very smart! 🎵 We knew that you were gonna fart! 🎵"

Kevin stepped in exploding bean residue. "Uh oh—" BOOM! Kevin flew thirty feet into the air. "WHEEEEEEE!" "I love this island," said Dumb Knight.

Gerald leading the conga line with dancing flowers on purple sand, Barry the Exploding Bean mid-explosion, Glitterbane rainbow-farting, knight fleeing a flying cucumber

Gerald joins the conga — the flowers follow, Glitterbane rainbow-farts in horror, and Barry explodes with joy

As the sun set (in the MIDDLE of the sky, because this island was WEIRD), Gerald looked at the three square moons and burped magnificently. BUUUUURRRRP! "BEAUTIFUL!" sang the ladybugs. "I still hate everything," said Glitterbane. But she was smiling. Just a tiny bit.

💨 Puzzle Ahead! The Dancing Flowers want to track exactly how gassy everyone was during the conga. Can you complete their Conga Gassy Grid before the ship sets sail?
Complete the Grid →
✦ PUZZLE 1 ✦
The Conga Gassy Grid
The Dancing Flowers of Weird Island keep very careful records. After every conga, they fill in their Gassy Grid — each row must add up to exactly 6. Gerald and Glitterbane's rows are complete. But Tulip the flower forgot to write down her middle number!

Rule: Every row must add up to 6. Find the missing number in Tulip's row.
NameMorning FartsAfternoon FartsEvening FartsRow Total
🐉 Gerald132= 6 ✓
🦄 Glitterbane312= 6 ✓
🌸 Tulip2?1= 6
What is Tulip's missing afternoon fart count? Choose below.

💨 Wrong Choice!

You write down 2. Tulip checks the grid: 2 + 2 + 1 = 5. "That only adds up to FIVE!" she wails. "I am FIVE short of being NORMAL! This is a DISASTER!" Gerald counts on his claws. "Try adding again — what number goes in the middle to make the row reach 6?"

Tulip's row is: 2 + ? + 1 = 6. What does ? need to be? Hint: 2 + 1 = 3, and 6 − 3 = ?

⏪ Try Again

💨 Wrong Choice!

You write down 4. Tulip checks: 2 + 4 + 1 = 7. "SEVEN?!" she shrieks. "I am a SEVEN! That's one TOO MANY! I have been OVER-FARTING!" She bursts into tears. Barry the Exploding Bean tries to comfort her. BOOM! That doesn't help. Try the grid again — the row needs to add up to exactly 6, not 7.

Tulip's row: 2 + ? + 1 = 6. The first and last numbers add up to 3. How much more do you need to reach 6?

⏪ Try Again

✅ Correct! 2 + 3 + 1 = 6! Tulip records the number with great pride. "My afternoon fart count is PERFECTLY average!" The Dancing Flowers cheer. Gerald nods wisely. "Three is a very respectable number."

Chapter 22

Under the Sea (The Really Wet Adventure)

The next morning, Kevin spotted fish in the water and leaned over to wave at them. Then he leaned too far. Then he fell in. "KEVIN!" screamed everyone. Dim Knight dove in to save him (forgetting his armour was VERY heavy). Then Dopey. Then Dumb. Then Gerald — MASSIVE SPLOOSH!

Underwater, something MAGICAL happened. Dodderick had accidentally spilled his "Mostly-Working Potion" into the ocean that morning. It created BREATHING BUBBLES — everyone had magical bubbles around their heads that let them breathe underwater!

They sank to the bottom of the Deep Dark Really Rather Scary Ocean — which wasn't actually that scary. There were seventeen shipwrecks piled on top of each other. "This must be the Shipwreck Graveyard!" announced Dodderick.

The crew underwater in magical breathing bubbles — knights sinking, Kevin swimming freely, octopus tickling Dozy who laughs in his sleep, Sand Witch holding an ancient mouldy sandwich, Gerald in a bubble with fish

Everyone gets a breathing bubble — Dozy gets tickled by an octopus and laughs in his sleep

They found TREASURE! "GOLD!" shouted Dim Knight. "JEWELS!" shouted Kevin. "SANDWICHES!" shouted Sand Witch, holding up 500-year-old sandwiches. "They're MOULDY!" "That's just SEASONING!"

Then came the sea creatures. The Backward Fish only swam backwards and spoke backwards. "!OLLEH" said the fish. Dopey felt a deep connection. "I wear my helmet backward! We're the SAME!" They became best friends immediately.

The Giggling Octopus tickled everyone with all eight arms. Kevin laughed so hard he accidentally punched it. "Ow! Hehehehe! That tickled too!" Gerald's underwater farts just made bubbles — BUBBLE BUBBLE BUBBLE — and fish gathered to pop them. "They taste like cake!"

The Dramatic Seahorses declared Kevin "The Chosen One Who Leaned Too Far, as the PROPHECY foretold!" And the Confused Whale had a full existential crisis. "Am I a whale? What IS a whale?" Sand Witch gave it a sandwich. "Now I'm a whale who's eaten a sandwich! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!"

Glitterbane's underwater rainbow farts created UNDERWATER RAINBOWS. "OOOOOH!" said all the sea creatures. "I hate the ocean," grumbled Glitterbane. But the rainbows were secretly rather pretty.

Kevin surrounded by dramatic seahorses declaring him the Chosen One, while the Confused Whale stares at itself in a porthole

The Dramatic Seahorses declare Kevin "The Chosen One Who Leaned Too Far" — Kevin is not sure how to feel about this

To escape, Sand Witch discovered her sandwiches were so light and fluffy they floated upward. Everyone grabbed one and rose to the surface. SPLASH! They burst out right next to the ship, trailing fish friends behind them.

"We brought treasure!" said Kevin. "And FRIENDS!" The backward fish jumped out to wave. "!EVAW" "AND we still have sandwiches!" said Sand Witch. "WHICH sandwiches?!" "THOSE sandwiches!" "WHO wants sandwiches?!" "EVERYONE!"

— End of Chapter 22 —
🐟 Puzzle Ahead! The Backward Fish left a SECRET MESSAGE on an old treasure chest. To open it and find the fish's greatest gift to the crew, you must decode the backwards words!
Decode the Message →
✦ PUZZLE 2 ✦
The Backward Fish Code
As the crew prepared to sail away, the lead Backward Fish swam up with a waterproof treasure chest. Scratched on the lid in backwards writing was a message. The Backward Fish speak entirely in reversed words — you must read each word backwards to discover what they're saying.

"PEEK SIHT TFEARG DRAOBDNIF!"
(Each word is written backwards. Reverse each word to read the message.)
Work it out!

KEEP → read backwards → ????

SIHT → read backwards → ????

TFEARG → read backwards → ?????

DRAOBDNIF → read backwards → ?????????

What is the Backward Fish telling the crew to keep? Choose below.

🥪 Wrong Choice!

You open the chest expecting sandwiches. Inside is... an extremely wet piece of seaweed and a very confused crab. "!DNARG YLREHTUR" says a passing fish, which — if you reverse those words — means "RATHER GRAND!" The crab agrees. But there is definitely no sandwich. Try again!

Look more carefully! Reverse each word one at a time. DRAOBDNIF reversed is... what word about finding things at sea? Hint: it has FIND in it!

⏪ Try Again — Back to the Puzzle

⚔️ Wrong Choice!

You confidently say "SWORDBOARD!" The Backward Fish stares at you. "...!TAHW" it says, which reversed is "WHAT!" This is not about swords. Not even slightly. The fish swims away in what looks like gentle disappointment. Try the puzzle again — the last big word has FIND in it somewhere!

DRAOBDNIF — start from the right and read left: D-N-I-F-D-R-A-O-B. What word do you get?

⏪ Try Again — Back to the Puzzle

✅ Correct! KEEP + THIS + GREAT + FINDBOARD — a magnificent navigator's board covered in glowing sea-charts! Dodderick immediately used it to get them completely lost in a new direction. Perfect.

(You decoded the Backward Fish Code! 2 puzzles down, 8 to go.)

Chapter 23

The Return to Proper Land (The Rematch)

Land appeared on the horizon. "That's PROPER LAND!" said Princess Chandamel through a telescope. Everyone groaned. "Not the PERFECT KNIGHTS!" wailed Gerald. As The Floating Disaster docked, the Perfect Knights were waiting.

"Well, well, WELL!" announced Sir Brilliant, teeth sparkling. "If it isn't the DISASTER KNIGHTS from Confusington!" "We CHALLENGE you to the ULTIMATE Tournament of Proper Land!" "We accept!" shouted Dim Knight. "We DO?!" squeaked everyone else.

Event 1: The Obstacle Course

The Perfect Knights completed the course in thirty-seven seconds — a new record. Dim Knight bounced off the first wall. Dozy Knight fell asleep on the climbing wall. Dumb Knight asked the obstacles polite questions. Dopey Knight went through the whole course BACKWARD.

"Can I try?" said Kevin. Kevin DEMOLISHED it. He smashed through walls! He threw obstacles at OTHER obstacles! "IS THAT ALLOWED?!" screamed Sir Brilliant. "There's no rule that says a troll CAN'T destroy the course!" said the judge. "NINETEEN SECONDS!" CONFUSINGTON WINS EVENT 1!

Event 2: The Poetry Competition

Sir Perfect recited a flawless poem about honour and glory. The crowd clapped politely. Then Dumb Knight stood up:

"Roses are red, / Violets are blue, / Gerald just farted, / And so did the shoe."

Everyone stared. "The SHOE?" asked the judge. Dopey Knight's shoe made a squeaking sound. "THAT shoe!" said That Witch. Gerald raised his hand sheepishly. "I got nervous." The crowd burst into the MOST laughter at any Proper Land poetry competition ever. CONFUSINGTON WINS EVENT 2!

Dumb Knight on stage at the Anti-Perfection Tournament poetry round, audience of Perfect Knights looking baffled, Gerald waving from the back

Dumb Knight delivers his masterpiece — "Roses are red, Gerald just farted, and so did the shoe"

Event 3: The Sandwich-Making Competition

The Perfect Knights made a technically perfect sandwich. Sand Witch made THE MEGA ULTIMATE SUPER SAND WITCH SPECIAL — seven layers tall, seventeen types of cheese, glowing slightly because of accidental magic. "That sandwich is ALIVE!" gasped the judge. The sandwich waved. The judge took one bite and burst into tears of joy. CONFUSINGTON WINS EVENT 3!

Event 4: The Dance Battle

Gerald's dancing was terrible — he fell over twice and knocked over a lamp. But then he farted. PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! And Glitterbane RAINBOW-FARTED. SPARKLE-PPPFFFFTTTTT! Gerald burped FIRE! Glitterbane's farts became FIREWORKS! The audience went WILD. "This is NOT dancing!" "This is BETTER than dancing! This is ART!" CONFUSINGTON WINS EVENT 4!

Final Event: The Tug of War

Instead of pulling, the witches started their routine. "WHICH way do we pull?!" "THAT way!" (seventeen directions at once) "WHO's pulling?!" "I'm making SANDWICHES!" Sand Witch had set up a sandwich stand in the middle of the competition. The Perfect Knights were SO confused they forgot to pull. Kevin gave the rope a tiny yank. They fell over. CONFUSINGTON WINS 5-0!

Tug of war chaos — Sand Witch has set up a sandwich stand in the middle, witches pulling in wrong directions, Kevin giving a tiny yank as Perfect Knights fly through the air

Sand Witch opens her sandwich stand mid-tug-of-war — Kevin does the rest

Dim Knight stepped forward. "We didn't win by being PERFECT. We won by being OURSELVES. And ourselves are... kind of a mess." "A BEAUTIFUL mess!" added Gerald. "A grumpy mess," corrected Glitterbane. Sir Brilliant, watching them sail away, shouted: "Come back soon! That was the most FUN we've ever had!" The Perfect Knights were finally learning to be less perfect. And maybe that was the most perfect thing of all.

— End of Chapter 23 —
🎪 Puzzle Ahead! Sir Brilliant demands a REMATCH — but this time it's a Chaos Challenge! Pick the perfect combination of moves to drop the Perfect Knights' efficiency to exactly zero percent.
Take the Chaos Challenge →
✦ PUZZLE 3 ✦
The Chaos Selector
Sir Brilliant has challenged the crew to a CHAOS ROUND. The rules: pick a combination of three actions. If those actions drop the Perfect Knights' efficiency to exactly 0%, Confusington wins the bonus trophy. But choose wrong and their efficiency actually goes UP. Study the options carefully!
Available Actions

🐉 Gerald's Fart: −40% efficiency (everyone is distracted)

🦄 Glitterbane's Rainbow Fart: −30% efficiency (everything is now sparkly)

🥪 Living Sandwich waves its flag: −30% efficiency (nobody can stop watching)

🏋️ Train harder: +20% efficiency

Polish armour: +15% efficiency

😴 Have a nap: +10% efficiency (rest is important!)

Witch questions for 10 minutes: −20% efficiency

😑 Boredom Sandwich: −10% efficiency (it's very boring)

💤 Dozy falls asleep mid-battle: −20% efficiency

Which set of 3 actions brings efficiency to exactly 0%? (Start at 100%.)

🏋️ Wrong Choice!

You choose Train harder (+20%), Polish armour (+15%), and Have a nap (+10%). The Perfect Knights' efficiency goes UP by 45%. They're now at 145% efficiency. "WE'RE EVEN MORE PERFECT THAN BEFORE!" shouts Sir Brilliant. The trophy floats further away. Dim Knight stares at you. "You made them BETTER. How did you make them BETTER?" Try again — you need actions that REDUCE efficiency, and the three you pick must total exactly −100%.

Look for 3 actions with negative numbers that add up to −100% together. Which 3 combine to make exactly −100%?

⏪ Try Again

❓ Wrong Choice!

You try Witch questions (−20%), Boredom Sandwich (−10%), and Dozy falls asleep (−20%). The efficiency drops by 50% — to 50%. "We're still HALF as perfect as before!" cries Sir Brilliant. "That's still QUITE perfect!" Kevin counts on his fingers. "You need three things that add up to a hundred. Those only add up to fifty." Try again — find the combo that hits exactly −100%!

−20% −10% −20% = −50%. You need −100% total. Which three actions have bigger numbers that add up correctly?

⏪ Try Again

✅ Correct! −40% −30% −30% = −100%. The Perfect Knights' efficiency hits zero. They stand there completely stunned, covered in sparkles, unable to think of a single proper thing to do. The bonus trophy is yours.

Chapter 24

The Slime Land Catastrophe

Three days after Proper Land, the ship hit a VERY strange fog — sticky, gloopy, and GREEN. It wasn't fog. It was SLIME. "WELCOME TO SLIME LAND!" boomed a goopy voice.

They sailed into an island made ENTIRELY of slime. Slime beaches. Slime trees. Slime buildings. Slime PEOPLE. The Slime King, King Gloop the Goopy, oozed toward them leaving a trail. "Greetings, dry ones!"

Slime Land chaos — knights stuck to slime trees, Glitterbane sliding with a knight on her back, witches tangled together, Kevin bouncing between mushroom towers, Gerald flying with gunked-up wings

Slime Land — where everything slides and Glitterbane's hooves go in every direction

Walking was impossible. "WHOA WHOA WHOA!" shouted Dim Knight, sliding past the town square. He and Dopey ended up stuck to a slime tree. Kevin, however, was EXCELLENT at slime — he bounced from building to building like a slimy pinball. Gerald's wings got gunked up. Glitterbane's hooves slipped everywhere. The witches got stuck to each other.

King Gloop explained the problem: ABSORBIA THE MEGA SPONGE. House-sized, yellow, pulsing with absorbed slime, sitting on a mountain — and getting bigger every day. "It's been eating our kingdom for months! Soon there will be NOTHING LEFT!"

"HALT!" boomed the sponge. "I am ABSORBIA THE ALL-CONSUMING! I will ABSORB this kingdom and then ABSORB the WORLD!" Dumb Knight raised his hand. "Why?" "WHAT?" "What happens after you absorb everything?" Absorbia paused. "I... I never thought about that." "You'd just be ALONE. A big sponge. With no one to talk to." Absorbia looked sad. "That... does sound lonely."

While Dumb Knight distracted Absorbia, Kevin realised: Gerald's burps are steam (because Gerald drinks enormous amounts of tea). STEAM is water vapour. And sponges absorb too much moisture and — pop.

The witches provided distraction. "WHICH sponge are you?!" "I'm... THE sponge?" "THAT sponge?!" "The ONLY sponge!" "WHO says you're the only sponge?!" "Want a sponge-sandwich?!" "WHAT WOULD THAT EVEN BE?!"

And while Absorbia was thoroughly confused — Gerald UNLEASHED. BUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRPPPPPP! A MASSIVE cloud of steam blasted the sponge! Absorbia SWELLED! And swelled! And SWELLED! POP! Absorbia gently deflated into a small, normal-sized sponge.

Gerald faces Absorbia the Mega Sponge — witches confuse it with questions, Kevin watches from a mushroom with popcorn, Dumb Knight has a polite conversation with the sponge

Gerald vs Absorbia — the witches, the questions, and one very nervous sponge

King Gloop offered Absorbia a job washing dishes. "I DO love absorbing dish water!" Kevin was crowned Honorary Slime Prince. "I've never been a PRINCE before!" "Now you have to be RESPONSIBLE!" said Princess Chandamel. Kevin thought about this. "Nah. I'll just be a slime prince who causes chaos." "...That's fair."

As they sailed away, the slime people waved — leaving slime trails in the air. "I love disgusting places," said Gerald. "I know. That's what I hate about you." "You don't hate me!" "I TOLERATE you." "That's basically love!" "It is NOT." But Glitterbane was smiling. Just a tiny bit.

"THAT TREE WAS NOT THERE BEFORE!" "It was definitely there before," says King Gloop helpfully. Look at the grid again — A3 has a 🌳 tree in it!

Going North from A1 twice takes you through A3 which has a tree. Try going East first to get away from Column A.

✅ Correct! East, East, North, North: A1→B1→C1→C2→C3. Kevin slides safely to the sponge without hitting a single tree. "I am EXCELLENT at slime paths!" he announces. King Gloop cheers wetly.

Chapter 25

The Haunted Castle of ABSOLUTE TERROR (Not Really)

The ship landed beneath a VERY spooky cliff with a castle trying extremely hard to be scary. Lightning flashed! Bats flew! A wolf howled! "AROOOOOOO!" "That's the scariest castle I've ever seen!" gasped Kevin. They went straight in. Obviously.

A spooky castle on a cliff at night — bats spelling BOO in the sky, lightning flashing, Count Frightful and the crew outside

The castle tries its very best — the bats spell BOO! in the sky just to be sure

The castle was FULL of attempts at being frightening. Cobwebs: "BOO! I'm a cobweb! Be scared!" Suits of armour: "We're EMPTY! That's scary, right?" Portraits: "We're watching you! Spooky!" But the Pillow Ghost immediately made friends with Gregory the Sheet Ghost. "I just float around going 'WOOOO!' but nobody's scared!" "That's SO relatable! Everyone ignores my BOOs!"

The monsters were terrible at their jobs:

The Vampire swooped down. "I VANT to suck your BLOOD!" "Want a sandwich instead of blood?" "What kind?" "Tomato. It's RED. Like blood!" He tried it. "This IS better than blood! Blood tastes like PENNIES!"

The Werewolf growled — then spotted Kevin. "I love trolls! My grandmother was half-troll!" "Really?!" "She was very HAIRY and lived under a bridge! That's basically troll!" Kevin and the werewolf became best friends immediately.

The Skeleton Band could only play happy songs. "🎵 We're spooky skeletons! We rattle our bones! 🎵 But we prefer dancing to scary moans! 🎵" Gerald joined in using his farts as percussion. PPPHHHHBBBTT! (Bass drum.) POOT POOT! (Cymbals.) The skeleton band was THRILLED. "We've never had a FART SECTION before!"

Finally, from the throne room: "BEHOLD! I am COUNT FRIGHTFUL! Master of TERROR! Lord of NIGHTMARES! Duke of—" He stepped into the light. He was three feet tall, wearing a cape far too big for him, and looked about seven years old. "You're a KID!" said Kevin. "I am NOT! I'm three HUNDRED years old! I just... stopped growing!"

Castle dinner party — vampire serving tomato soup, werewolf with salad, skeleton band playing music, ghosts floating around, Count Frightful smiling

The castle dinner party — tomato soup, skeleton jazz, and Count Frightful smiling for the first time in a hundred years

Count Frightful's lip wobbled. "I'm LONELY! Nobody wants to visit a SCARY castle! So I try to MAKE them visit! But then they run away BECAUSE I'm scary! It's a TERRIBLE cycle!" He burst into tears. The Pillow Ghost floated over. "BOO! I understand! I try to scare people, but really I just want to be their FRIEND! BOO!"

Dinner was wonderful — the Vampire served tomato soup ("I'm over blood"), the Werewolf made salad ("I'm trying to eat healthier"), the Skeleton Band provided music, and the ghosts planned a Ghost Friendship Group. Count Frightful smiled for the first time in a hundred years. As they left, the bats spelled "BYE!" in the sky. The castle, which had looked so scary before, seemed warm and welcoming.

"I like that castle," said Kevin. "I TOLERATE that castle," said Glitterbane. "That's basically liking it," said Gerald. "It is NOT." But she was smiling. Just a tiny bit.

He woos sadly for several minutes. Kevin feels terrible. The Werewolf gets the Ghost Friendship Charter by mistake and is confused. "I'm not a ghost?" Think again about what Gregory needed most!

Gregory and the Pillow Ghost connected because they were both lonely and wanted to be UNDERSTOOD — not because of trolls! Which gift celebrates that friendship?

⏪ Try Again — Back to the Puzzle

✅ Correct! Vampire → Tomato Sandwich Recipe Book. Werewolf → Troll Family Tree Poster. Skeleton Band → Dragon-Fart Sheet Music. Gregory → Ghost Friendship Club Charter. Count Frightful is so delighted he cries (again), but happy tears this time.

Chapter 26

Hunting for Santa (In the Middle of Summer)

It was the hottest day of summer when Kevin asked a very important question: "Where does Santa go when it's NOT Christmas?" Everyone stopped. "Is he just UNEMPLOYED for eleven months?" asked Princess Chandamel. The decision was immediate: they would FIND SANTA.

They sailed north for days until they reached the (slightly melted) North Pole. Santa's workshop had a sign: "CLOSED FOR SUMMER — BACK IN OCTOBER." The elves were in swimming trunks. The reindeer were lounging by a pool. An elf in sunglasses looked up. "The big guy? He went somewhere tropical. Said something about 'finally getting a TAN.'"

Santa relaxing in a hammock on a tropical beach in a Hawaiian shirt, cocktail in hand, elves and reindeer on holiday around him, Kevin running up the beach

Santa on his summer holiday — Hawaiian shirt, hammock, and absolutely no intention of delivering anything

They found Santa on a tropical island — Hawaiian shirt, flip-flops, cocktail with a little umbrella. "HO HO — wait, is that CHILDREN? It's not CHRISTMAS!" He jumped up, startled. Kevin explained they just wanted to know what he does in summer. Santa relaxed. "Mostly nothing. Delivering presents to billions of children is EXHAUSTING. I need a BREAK!" He looked a bit sad. "Would you like to come on an ADVENTURE with us?" asked Kevin. Santa's eyes lit up. "AN ADVENTURE?! I haven't had one in CENTURIES!"

Santa hurling presents at pirates — a bike hits one pirate, presents flying everywhere, Gerald breathing fire, Which Witch tangled with a pirate, Kevin interviewing captured pirates

Santa's present-throwing technique turns out to be devastatingly effective against pirates

Santa aboard the ship was DELIGHTFUL. He kept giving everyone presents. "A sword for you, Dim Knight! A pillow for Dozy Knight! Which witch wants which gift?" "WHICH gift?!" "THAT gift!" "WHO wants gifts?!" "I want a SANDWICH!" "I... don't have sandwiches. But I have COOKIES!" "COOKIES ARE ACCEPTABLE!"

Gerald was nervous around Santa. "Do you remember what I asked for as a baby dragon?" Santa checked a scroll. "You asked for 'infinite cakes and no tummy troubles!'" "Did I get it?" "You got the infinite cakes. The tummy troubles came WITH them. That's not my fault!" PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! "Sorry!" Santa laughed. "HO HO HO! The reindeer after Christmas dinner? MUCH worse!"

Even Glitterbane was impressed. "You're not as ANNOYING as I expected." "And YOU'RE exactly as grumpy as the Naughty List says!" "I'm on the NAUGHTY LIST?!" "Everyone's a LITTLE bit naughty. That's what makes life interesting!"

Summer pirates attacked the ship. Santa helped by throwing presents at them. "OW! He hit me with a BIKE!" "OOF! That was a TRAIN SET!" "Is that a PUPPY?! He's throwing PUPPIES?!" "The puppies are for the NICE pirates! ARE there nice pirates?" There were not. Four puppies stayed on the ship.

When it was time to go, Santa hugged everyone. "Thank you for the BEST vacation I've ever had! Check your stocking at Christmas — I'll leave something SPECIAL." And with a "HO HO HO!" he flew off on a reindeer that had clearly missed the flying. Kevin waved until Santa was just a sparkle. "That was the BEST summer ever," he said. "It was ACCEPTABLE," said Glitterbane. "That's basically saying it was great." "It is NOT." But she was smiling. Almost a full smile this time.

🔒 Puzzle Ahead! Santa left a secret gift box for the crew — but it's locked with a 3-digit code based on who is least naughty to most naughty. Can you crack it?
Crack the Lock →
✦ PUZZLE 6 ✦
The Naughty-List Lock
Before leaving, Santa tucked a surprise gift box under the ship's sail — locked with a 3-digit code. The note reads: "Enter the characters in order from LEAST naughty to MOST naughty. Each character gets a number: 1 = least naughty, 3 = most naughty."

The candidates are Gerald (farts accidentally, means well), Glitterbane (grumpy but never actually does anything wrong), and Kevin (stowed away, crashed camp, ate furniture).
?
?
?

Gerald = ? (farts are accidents, not naughtiness)

Glitterbane = ? (grumpy, but never actually misbehaves)

Kevin = ? (stowaway, troll invasion, ate a TABLE)

Enter the 3 digits: least naughty first, most naughty last. Choose the correct code below.

🔒 Wrong Choice!

You try 3-1-2. The lock buzzes sadly. A small note pops out: "WRONG — Kevin is the MOST naughty (3), not the LEAST! He ATE A TABLE!" Kevin looks slightly guilty. "To be fair, it was a very crunchy table." Gerald adds helpfully: "I only fart accidentally. I feel that should count in my favour." Try again — who is truly the least naughty of the three?

Kevin ate furniture and organised a troll invasion. Gerald farts by accident. Glitterbane is grumpy but behaves. Order them from least to most naughty.

⏪ Try Again

🔒 Wrong Choice!

You try 2-3-1. The lock buzzes. Another note: "WRONG — being grumpy is NOT naughtier than eating furniture!" Glitterbane looks briefly offended then relieved. "I am NOT the worst-behaved. I am simply HONEST." Kevin waves. "I ate a whole TABLE. That's definitely worse than being grumpy." Try again — sort them properly!

Glitterbane is grumpy but well-behaved (not very naughty). Gerald farts accidentally (least naughty). Kevin causes deliberate chaos (most naughty).

⏪ Try Again

✅ Correct! 1–2–3: Gerald (least naughty) → Glitterbane → Kevin (most naughty). The lock clicks open. Inside: an infinite supply of festive cookies. "HO HO HO!" echoes from somewhere far away.

Chapter 27

Summer Camp at BCIS (Everything Goes Wrong)

They sailed home just in time for SUMMER CAMP! "The royal children are attending BCIS Summer Camp and the knights will be COUNSELORS!" "What's a counselor?" asked Dumb Knight. "Someone who makes sure children don't do anything STUPID!" Everyone looked at Dim Knight, who had just walked into a wall. "...We're doomed," said Princess Chandamel.

Gerald looking sheepish next to a now-empty pool full of sand, children building sandcastles, Princess Chandamel with clipboard looking exasperated, Dozy Knight asleep on lifeguard chair

Gerald overheats the pool: "I might have overdone it" — the campers build sandcastles instead

Day 1: The Swimming Lesson. Gerald tried to help by heating the pool. It became a hot tub. Then a sauna. Then the pool EVAPORATED. "WHERE DID THE WATER GO?!" "I might have overdone it," admitted Gerald. The campers built sandcastles in the empty pool instead. Somehow this counted as a success.

Day 2: Arts and Crafts. The witches made edible friendship bracelets out of sandwich ingredients. Actually quite nice. The children ate them immediately. First real success of the camp.

Day 3: The Troll Invasion. Kevin had secretly messaged his family. At lunchtime, the ENTIRE TROLL FAMILY appeared — Grumblesnort, Grizzlehilda, and all twelve children: Smasher, Basher, Crasher, Thrasher, Masher, Hasher, Lasher, Dasher, Casher, Washer, Flasher, and Kevin. They raided the lunchboxes. Then ate the table. "WHY did you eat the TABLE?!" "It looked crunchy!" said Crasher.

BCIS Summer Camp chaos — giant troll with troll chili pot, Kevin grinning, troll children running wild, knight with clipboard, Glitterbane and rainbow slide, children enjoying the mayhem

The twelve troll children discover that tables are surprisingly tasty

Day 4: The Campfire. Gerald breathed "a LITTLE fire." The campfire became a BONFIRE, became a VOLCANO. "GERALD!" Glitterbane put it out with rainbow farts. SPARKLE-PPPFFFFFFTTTTTT! Fire replaced by a RAINBOW EXPLOSION. The campers were ecstatic. "DO IT AGAIN!" They did it fourteen more times.

Day 5: The Talent Show. Dim Knight's magic trick turned one rabbit into twenty-seven. Dozy Knight slept onstage — the children thought it was a meditation demonstration and gave him third place. Dumb Knight asked the audience questions for thirty minutes about the nature of talent. Dopey Knight juggled blindly (helmet backwards) and hit three judges with balls. Kevin's troll dance involved throwing tables and smashing chairs. The judge gave him first place. "That was DESTRUCTIVE!" "But was it ENTERTAINING?" "...YES!"

The Award Ceremony. The campers gave everyone trophies: Dim Knight — "Most Accidental Heroism." Dozy — "Best Sleeper." Dumb — "Most Thought-Provoking Questions." Dopey — "Most Resilient (Also Most Likely to Walk into Things)." Gerald — "Warmest Welcome" (literally). Glitterbane — "Best Grumpy Support." The Witches — "Most Confusing (In a Good Way)." Kevin — "Best Troll (Only Troll, But Still Best)."

"That was the BEST summer camp ever," said Kevin. "Everything went WRONG," said Princess Chandamel. "I know! That's what made it GREAT!" Gerald and Glitterbane combined forces one more time. PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! SPARKLE-PPPFFFFTTT! Beautiful sunset rainbow. "I hate you all," said Glitterbane. But she was smiling. A real, proper smile.

— End of Chapter 27 —
🏆 Puzzle Ahead! The campers made trophies — but which SET of award pairings is completely correct? Match each character to their rightful trophy!
Check the Awards →
✦ PUZZLE 7 ✦
The Award Allocator
The summer camp trophies have been mixed up! There are seven awards — but only one of the three sets of pairings below has ALL THREE matches correct. Read back through what happened at camp and pick the right set!
The Seven Awards

🥇 Most Accidental Heroism  ·  😴 Best Sleeper  ·  ❓ Most Thought-Provoking Questions

🧱 Most Resilient  ·  🔥 Warmest Welcome  ·  😤 Best Grumpy Support  ·  🧌 Best Troll

Choose the correct set of 3 pairings:

Set A

  • 🐉 Gerald → 🔥 Warmest Welcome
  • 💤 Dozy → ❓ Most Thought-Provoking Questions
  • 🧌 Kevin → 😴 Best Sleeper

Set B

  • 🐉 Gerald → 🔥 Warmest Welcome
  • 💤 Dozy → 😴 Best Sleeper
  • 🧌 Kevin → 🧌 Best Troll

Set C

  • 🐉 Gerald → 🥇 Most Accidental Heroism
  • 💤 Dozy → 🧌 Best Troll
  • 🧌 Kevin → 😴 Best Sleeper
Which set has all three pairings correct?

🏆 Wrong Choice!

You pick Set A. Dozy wakes up briefly to receive the Most Thought-Provoking Questions award. "Huh?" he says. Then falls asleep again. "That WAS a thought-provoking question," admits Dumb Knight. Kevin receives Best Sleeper and looks confused. "But I didn't SLEEP at all! I ate a table!" The trophies are clearly wrong. In Set A, Dozy should have Best Sleeper (he literally slept onstage), and Kevin's trophy should reflect being a troll!

Think about what each character actually DID at camp. Dozy fell asleep onstage. Kevin won the talent show by being a destructive troll. Gerald overheated the pool.

⏪ Try Again

🏆 Wrong Choice!

You pick Set C. Gerald receives Most Accidental Heroism. "But Dim Knight gets that one usually!" protests Gerald. Dozy receives Best Troll. "I'm not a troll," he murmurs sleepily. "Am I?" Kevin gets Best Sleeper and stares in outrage. "I was AWAKE the WHOLE TIME! I ate a TABLE! I threw CHAIRS! How is that SLEEPING?!" Clearly something has gone wrong. Look at what each character actually did during the camp week.

Gerald boiled the pool away (Warmest Welcome). Dozy napped onstage (Best Sleeper). Kevin caused troll-level chaos in the talent show (Best Troll). Which set matches this?

⏪ Try Again

✅ Correct! Set B is all right: Gerald → Warmest Welcome ✓, Dozy → Best Sleeper ✓, Kevin → Best Troll ✓. The trophies are handed out amid enormous cheering. Kevin's trophy is bigger than he is.

Chapter 28

Back to the Past (DINOSAURS and ROMANS!)

"I've invented a TIME TRAVEL POTION!" announced Dodderick. Kevin knocked it over immediately. It splashed on EVERYONE. FLASH! They were in a jungle with VERY large footprints. A massive head appeared over the trees. "Is that a DINOSAUR?!" screamed Kevin. "ROOOOOOAAARRRR!" confirmed the dinosaur. The T-Rex was ENORMOUS. It was also wearing a TINY party hat. "Why does it have a PARTY HAT?!" "It says it's its BIRTHDAY!" translated Kevin. "You speak DINOSAUR?!" "No, but it seems OBVIOUS!"

Gerald and a T-Rex with a party hat facing each other in a prehistoric jungle, both with musical fart speech bubbles, Kevin riding the T-Rex, Dumb Knight holding a flower, Princess Chandamel and Dodderick in background

The birthday T-Rex meets Gerald — they bond immediately over shared talents

Gerald stepped forward. "Hello! I'm ALSO a giant reptile with tiny wings!" They stared at each other. Then Gerald farted. PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! The T-Rex LAUGHED. "ROAAR-HAR-HAR-HAR!" "ALL dinosaurs think farts are funny!" "Finally!" said Gerald. "My ANCIENT people!"

The Triceratops was very polite — "Good day! Lovely weather! Mind the meteor!" "What meteor?" "Oh, that comes later. Much later. Don't worry about it!" The Pterodactyls kept trying to carry Kevin to their nest. "SMALL CREATURE! WE CARRY YOU!" "I'm NOT food!" "WE KNOW! YOU'RE CUTE! WE TAKE YOU TO NEST!" "HELP!" The Stegosaurus was deeply confused — "Am I a dinosaur? Maybe I'm a fancy rock?" Sand Witch's sandwiches made her an instant legend. "THESE ARE BETTER THAN LEAVES ALONE!" said a Brontosaurus.

Then Dodderick's potion wore off at EXACTLY the wrong moment. FLASH! They weren't in dinosaur times anymore. They were in ANCIENT ROME. A Roman soldier stared. "BARBARIANS! Wait — is that a DRAGON?!" Gerald waved and immediately farted. "IT'S A DEMON! CALL THE EMPEROR!"

Gerald flying a chariot with Princess Chandamel inside the Colosseum, Emperor Julius confused in the stands, other chariots below, Gerald farting PPPHHHHT

Gerald's flying chariot wins the race — Roman rules say nothing about chariots that fly

The Roman Emperor challenged them to GLADIATOR GAMES — chariot racing! The Confusington team had no chariot, no horses, but they DID have Gerald. He pulled a cart they found. He was terrible at running but EXCELLENT at flying. PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! Extra boost mid-flight. They won by three laps. "Show me the RULE that says chariots can't fly!" said Princess Chandamel. Flying wasn't mentioned. "CONFUSINGTON WINS!"

The Emperor wanted them to stay as royal entertainers. The witches did their routine until he clutched his head. "You are TOO CONFUSING! LEAVE! NEVER COME BACK!" Dodderick made a new potion ingredient: "I can get us home! I just need something POWERFUL!" Gerald looked at him. "Dragon fart power?" "I was afraid you'd say that." Gerald released the BIGGEST FART IN ROMAN HISTORY. PPPPPHHHHHHHHBBBBBBBBBBBTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! Combined with the potion — TIME VORTEX. FLASH! Home. Ancient Rome smelled like dragon fart for three hundred years. Historians are STILL confused about it.

— End of Chapter 28 —
🛒 Puzzle Ahead! Dodderick's time potion went a bit sideways — again. Before the crew lands in the Wild West, you must help Gerald navigate the Flying Chariot through the Roman Colosseum columns!
Navigate the Chariot →
✦ PUZZLE 8 ✦
The Flying Chariot Challenge
Quick — the time vortex is closing and Gerald still needs to fly the chariot through the Colosseum one more time to reach the exit portal! Each of Gerald's fart-boosts moves the chariot: 2 rows UP and 1 column RIGHT. The chariot starts at the bottom-left. The exit portal is at the top-right. The grey columns are PILLARS — crashing into one means going back to the start!
The Colosseum Grid

Start = 🛒 (bottom-left) · Exit = 🌀 (top-right) · Pillars = ⬛

Row 5
🌀
Row 4
Row 3
Row 2
Row 1
🛒

Columns: A · B · C · D · E

Start: Row 1, Column B (the 🛒)

Each fart-boost: +2 rows UP, +1 column RIGHT

Boost 1: Row 1+2=3, Col B+1=C → Is Row 3, Col C a pillar? ?

Boost 2: Row 3+2=5, Col C+1=D → Is Row 5, Col D a pillar? ?

Boost 3: Hmm... that still doesn't reach the exit (Row 5, Col E)!

Gerald needs a different starting position! Which column should the chariot move to BEFORE the first boost?

💥 Wrong Choice!

Gerald boosts from Column B. Row 1 → Row 3, Column C. The grid shows Row 3, Column C is... a PILLAR! CRUNCH! The chariot smashes straight into a stone column. Gerald is now stuck in a Roman pillar, which is embarrassing. Roman engineers are not impressed. The Emperor sighs heavily. "They hit a pillar. Obviously." Try again — check the grid carefully before boosting!

From Column B: Boost lands on Row 3, Col C — which has a ⬛ pillar! You need a starting column where BOTH boosts land on empty squares.

⏪ Try Again — Back to the Puzzle

🏛️ Wrong Choice!

Gerald boosts from Column A. Row 1 → Row 3, Column B. No pillar — great! Boost again: Row 3 → Row 5, Column C. Row 5, Column C is... also a PILLAR! The chariot bounces off it. Gerald spins in mid-air. He is now upside down above the Colosseum, which is NOT in the rules but also not explicitly forbidden. Still need to reach Column E! Try again!

From Column A: first boost reaches Col B ✓, second boost reaches Row 5, Col C — which has a ⬛ pillar! Try Column C — work out where the two boosts land.

⏪ Try Again — Back to the Puzzle

✅ Correct! From Row 1, Column C: Boost 1 → Row 3, Col D (empty ✓). Boost 2 → Row 5, Col E = 🌀 EXIT! Gerald shoots through the time portal with a celebratory fart. The Roman crowd gives a standing ovation.

(Flying Chariot complete! 8 puzzles down, 2 to go.)

Chapter 29

The Wild West Whoopsie (COWBOYS!)

Something went wrong with the time potion. Instead of going HOME, they went SIDEWAYS through time. They landed in a desert with cactuses, tumbleweeds, and COWBOYS. "HOWDY, strangers! Welcome to the WILD WEST!" A cowboy rode up on a horse, took one look at the full crew, and stopped. "What IS that?" Gerald landed behind them. PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! "Howdy!" The cowboy fainted.

The crew arriving in Dry Gulch — Gerald, Princess Chandamel, Kevin, Glitterbane, a knight, sheriff scratching his head, 'Welcome to Dry Gulch — Population 47, currently very confused' sign

Gerald introduces himself to the Wild West — the horse is not prepared

The town was called Dry Gulch. The Sheriff approached cautiously. "We don't get many travelers here. 'Specially not... whatever y'all are." "We're knights!" said Dim Knight. "WHICH knights?!" asked Which Witch. "Never seen a knight," said the Sheriff. "But I've seen TROUBLE. And y'all look like trouble." Gerald farted. A nearby tumbleweed exploded. "...Okay, maybe a LITTLE trouble."

The problem: THE DUSTY DAVE GANG. Seven bandits in black hats had been terrorising Dry Gulch for months — stealing gold, scaring chickens, and putting whoopee cushions on all the chairs. "How LOUD are the whoopee cushions?" asked Gerald with great interest.

The Dusty Dave Gang rode into town at high noon. "Alright, Dry Gulch! We're here to— wait, what IS that?!" They stared at the witches' confusing roadblock. "HALT! WHICH way are you going?!" "We're going into... town?" "THAT way?!" (seventeen directions at once) "WHO's going?!" "WE are! The Dusty Dave Gang!" "Want a BANDIT sandwich?!" "What's IN it?!" "EVERYTHING YOU'VE STOLEN!" "WE HAVEN'T STOLEN ANYTHING YET!" "Then it's EMPTY! Here!" She handed Dusty Dave two plain pieces of bread. "This is NOTHING!" "EXACTLY! That's what you DESERVE!"

While Dave was thoroughly confused, Kevin snuck behind the horses and tied all their reins together. Gerald flew overhead and delivered one strategic fart. PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! The spooked horses ran in a CIRCLE. "WHAT'S HAPPENING?!" The bandits got so dizzy they fell off. Glitterbane's rainbow fart covered them in sparkles. "WE GIVE UP! WE SURRENDER! Just STOP the WITCHES!" "WHICH witches?!" "PLEASE! NO MORE!"

Bandits tied together on horses in a glittery rainbow swirl, hands raised, Kevin watching from a doorway, Gerald flying above, witches debating, sheriff looking stunned, Dry Gulch street

Seven horses, seven dizzy bandits, and one extremely glittery surrender

The town celebrated. The Sheriff made them all Honorary Deputies. Kevin got a tiny cowboy hat. Gerald got one the size of a tent. Glitterbane refused a cowboy hat but secretly kept one for later. Then Dodderick FINALLY mixed the potion correctly. "I think I can get us HOME! For real!" "Are you SURE?" "Mostly... partly... somewhat sure." "YEEHAW!" shouted Kevin. "LET'S GO HOME!" FLASH! And this time... they actually went home. The Wild West told legends about them for years. The Confusing Knights. The Farting Dragon. The Witch Posse. And the little troll with the tiny cowboy hat.

— End of Chapter 29 —
🪢 Puzzle Ahead! Seven horses have escaped into the desert! Kevin must lasso them all before the time portal closes. Which rope pattern will safely hold all 7 horses?
Lasso the Horses →
✦ PUZZLE 9 ✦
The Lasso Knot
The seven Sheriff's horses spooked during the bandit battle and bolted across the desert. Kevin has exactly one chance to lasso them all before the time portal closes. He has three rope patterns to choose from — but only one will hold ALL 7 horses safely so none can escape.
The Three Patterns

🪢 Pattern A — The Hub-and-Spoke

All 7 horses tied by separate ropes to ONE central post. Each horse pulls outward in a different direction. The post takes all the strain.

🔄 Pattern B — The Loop Lasso

Each horse tied to the next horse in a continuous circle. Horse 1 → Horse 2 → Horse 3 → ... → Horse 7 → Horse 1. They all pull against each other, going nowhere.

👫 Pattern C — Pairs and One Loose

3 pairs of horses tied together (pair pulls against pair), plus one horse left with no partner to tie to.

Which pattern safely holds ALL 7 horses?

💥 Wrong Choice!

Kevin ties all 7 horses to one post. The horses all pull outward at once. There is a terrible creaking sound. Then a very loud CRACK. The post flies out of the ground like a cork. Seven horses gallop in seven directions. The post lands on Dumb Knight's helmet. "Was that supposed to happen?" asks Dumb Knight. "NO," says the Sheriff. Seven horses, all escaped. Try a different pattern!

One post can't hold the force of 7 horses all pulling outward at once. Which pattern makes the horses work against EACH OTHER instead of against a single point?

⏪ Try Again

😬 Wrong Choice!

Kevin ties 3 pairs of horses together. Six horses are now arguing with their partners and going nowhere. But horse number 7 — the smallest one, named Gerald Jr. — has no partner. It looks at Kevin. Kevin looks at it. It winks. Then it bolts. "GERALD JR. IS FREE!" shouts Kevin. The Sheriff sighs. "You had ONE job." You need a pattern that accounts for ALL 7 horses — no one left out!

7 is an odd number — you can't pair them all up evenly. Which pattern works for ANY number of horses, odd or even?

⏪ Try Again

✅ Correct! Pattern B — the Loop Lasso — holds all 7 horses in a perfect circle, each pulling against the next. Nobody goes anywhere. Kevin tips his tiny cowboy hat. "I'm basically a rodeo champion." The Sheriff nods. "You kind of are."

Chapter 30

The GRAND GRAND FINALE
(The Biggest Adventure of All!)

They finally returned to the Kingdom of Confusington. EVERYONE was there. The King! The trolls! The Perfect Knights! Count Frightful and his monster friends! Santa (visiting)! Sir Splashington and the fish! The slime people! Barry the Exploding Bean! The dinosaurs (who had somehow followed them)! And even the cowboys from the Wild West!

"HOW did you ALL get here?!" "Time travel side effects!" said Dodderick cheerfully. "Everyone we met is now visiting!" "That's CHAOS!" "That's CONFUSINGTON!"

Grand gathering outside Confusington Castle — Kevin centre stage with crown and cowboy hat, knights, cowboys, Romans, slime creatures, witches, Santa, whale, dinosaurs, DIM KNIGHTS UNION banner, exploding bean

The Grand Finale — knights, dinosaurs, Romans, cowboys, slime people and one very confused whale, all together

The King announced the BIGGEST celebration ever. "TEN YEARS of Dim Knight adventures! A DECADE of disasters! A CENTURY— wait, no, just ten years! TEN YEARS OF CHAOS!" "WHICH chaos?!" "ALL OF IT!" shouted everyone.

The Fart-Off

Gerald and the T-Rex had a FART-OFF. PPPHHHHBBBTTT! — Gerald. ROOOOAAAARRRR-PPPHHHHBBBBTTTT! — T-Rex. The T-Rex won (more lung capacity). "I've found my ancestor!" said Gerald, genuinely moved.

The Eleven Thousand Sandwiches

Sand Witch and Soup Witch distributed eleven thousand sandwiches and bowls of soup. Cowboys, Romans, and dinosaurs all tried them. "THIS IS BETTER THAN GRASS!" said a Brontosaurus. "Better than ROBBERY!" said Dusty Dave. "Better than CONQUEST!" said the Roman Emperor. (He had followed them too. Historians were, once again, confused.)

The Accidental Sword Victory

Sir Brilliant challenged Dim Knight to a friendly duel. Dim Knight's sword flew out of his hand. His shield flew away. His helmet fell off. But he TRIPPED into Sir Brilliant and accidentally won. "HOW DO YOU KEEP DOING THAT?!" screamed Sir Brilliant. "I have NO idea!" said Dim Knight cheerfully.

Kevin's Coronation

Kevin was crowned OFFICIAL HERO OF CONFUSINGTON. "For stowing away on adventures! For making friends with dinosaurs! For being the BEST baby troll in history!" Kevin cried happy tears. "I just wanted to have FUN!" "And you BROUGHT fun everywhere you went!" The troll family cheered loudest of all. "THAT'S OUR KEVIN!" bellowed Grumblesnort.

Kevin's coronation — crown on top of the cowboy hat, happy troll tears

The Ultimate Fireworks

Gerald and Glitterbane performed their ULTIMATE combo. Gerald MEGA-burped fire into the sky! Glitterbane MEGA-rainbow-farted! BUUUUUURRRRPPP-SPARKLE-PPPFFFFFFTTTTTTTTT! The combination created FIREWORK RAINBOWS! SPARKLING FIRE CLOUDS! A dragon made of rainbows that flew across the sky! "THAT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I'VE EVER SEEN!" cried everyone. "I still hate it," said Glitterbane. "No you don't," said Gerald. "...Okay, maybe I like it a LITTLE." "That's basically love!" "It is NOT." But she was smiling. A full, proper, wonderful smile.

Gerald breathing fire and Glitterbane farting rainbows — their streams combine into a giant rainbow fire dragon in the night sky, fireworks everywhere, Kevin riding Gerald, crowd watching below, T-Rex with party hat

Gerald's fire meets Glitterbane's rainbow — a dragon made of light crosses the sky

As the sun set on the greatest celebration in Confusington history, Dim Knight stood on the castle balcony — his brothers below (Dozy asleep, Dumb asking questions, Dopey's helmet FINALLY on correctly), Gerald and Glitterbane farting harmoniously, the witches confusing a group of dinosaurs, Kevin wearing his cowboy hat AND his slime prince crown, Dodderick accidentally turning the punch into pudding, the Pillow Ghost saying "BOO! Great party! BOO!", and all their friends from every adventure.

"You know," said Dim Knight, "we're not very good at being knights." "Which knights?" asked Which Witch from below. "We can't fight. We can't rescue. We can't do ANYTHING right." "THAT'S true!" said That Witch. "But somehow... we always save the day." "WHO saves it?!" "WE do! ALL of us! Together!"

Dim Knight raised his sword (backward, but it didn't matter). "HERE'S TO TEN MORE YEARS OF ADVENTURES!" "HOORAY!" "HERE'S TO BEING USELESS BUT HEROIC!" "HOORAY!" "HERE'S TO FARTS!" PPPHHHHHHBBBBTTTTT! "HOORAY!" "HERE'S TO RAINBOWS!" SPARKLE-PPPFFFFTTT! "HOORAY!" "AND HERE'S TO SANDWICHES!" "WHICH SANDWICHES?!" "ALL OF THEM!" The party went on until dawn. And then until the next dawn. And the dawn after that.

(Confusington wasn't very good at ENDING parties either.)

THE END

But not really.

Because in the Kingdom of Confusington...

The adventure NEVER truly ends.

It just takes a nap.

ZZZzzzzzzz...

In the castle, Kevin curled up between Gerald and Glitterbane.

"That was the BEST ten years ever," he murmured sleepily.

"It was ACCEPTABLE," said Glitterbane.

"That's basically—"

"I know. That's basically saying it was great."

She smiled. Gerald smiled. Kevin smiled.

And somewhere, the witches were STILL confusing someone.

"Which someone?" "THAT someone!" "WHO?" "Want a THE END sandwich?"

Stuck? We've Got Hints!

Having trouble with a puzzle? Tap a hint — but only if you really need it! (The Pillow Ghost is watching. BOO!)

💨 Puzzle 1 — The Conga Gassy Grid

Every row must add up to exactly 6. Gerald's row: 1+3+2=6 ✓. Glitterbane's row: 3+1+2=6 ✓. Tulip's row has 2 and 1 already. Add those together first, then work out what's missing.
Tulip's row: 2 + ? + 1 = 6. First add 2+1=3. Then ask: what do you add to 3 to get 6? The answer is 3. So Tulip's missing number is 3.

🐟 Puzzle 2 — The Backward Fish Code

Take the word OLLEH. Start from the right-hand side and read each letter toward the left: H-E-L-L-O. That spells HELLO! Do the same thing with each word in the fish's message.
DRAOBDNIF reversed: read it right to left letter by letter — F-I-N-D-B-O-A-R-D. FINDBOARD! It's something sailors use to navigate and spot treasure.

🎪 Puzzle 3 — The Chaos Selector

You need three actions whose percentage numbers add up to exactly −100%. The Perfect Knights start at 100% efficiency — you need to bring it all the way to 0%. Look for the three biggest negative numbers.
Gerald's Fart = −40%. Glitterbane's Rainbow Fart = −30%. Living Sandwich waves its flag = −30%. Add them: 40+30+30=100. That's exactly −100%! Set C is correct.

🧽 Puzzle 4 — The Slime-Slide Path

Columns are A (left), B (middle), C (right). Rows are 1 (bottom), 2 (middle), 3 (top). Start at A1. The sponge is at C3. E moves go A→B→C. N moves go 1→2→3. Trees are at A3 and B2 — avoid those squares!
Go East twice along the bottom row (A1→B1→C1), then North twice up the right column (C1→C2→C3). No trees anywhere on that path!

🧛 Puzzle 5 — Count Frightful's Monster Matching

The Vampire said blood tastes like PENNIES — he tried a tomato sandwich and loved it because it was red and delicious. Which gift is all about red, blood-free food?
Gregory the Ghost was lonely — he just wanted to be understood. The Pillow Ghost understood perfectly and they planned a Ghost Friendship Group. Which gift celebrates exactly that connection?

🔒 Puzzle 6 — The Naughty-List Lock

Think about what each character actually DID. Gerald farts by accident — not really naughty. Glitterbane is grumpy but well-behaved. Kevin stowed away on the ship, organised a troll invasion, and ate a table. Who is most naughty?
Least to most naughty: Gerald (1) → Glitterbane (2) → Kevin (3). The code is 1-2-3.

🏆 Puzzle 7 — The Award Allocator

Gerald accidentally heated the pool until it evaporated — that's a "Warmest Welcome." Dozy fell asleep onstage during the talent show. Kevin won the talent show by causing troll-level destruction. Which set matches all three?
Set B: Gerald → Warmest Welcome ✓, Dozy → Best Sleeper ✓, Kevin → Best Troll ✓. All three match what actually happened at camp.

🛒 Puzzle 8 — The Flying Chariot Challenge

Each fart-boost moves +2 rows UP and +1 column RIGHT. So from Row 1, Column B: one boost lands on Row 3, Column C. Check the grid — is that square a ⬛ pillar or empty?
The exit 🌀 is Row 5, Col E. The second boost must end there, so it starts at Row 3, Col D. Row 3, Col D is empty ✓. Now: the first boost must land on Row 3, Col D — so it starts at Row 1, Col C. Move the chariot to Column C first!

🪢 Puzzle 9 — The Lasso Knot

Pattern A ties all 7 horses to ONE post. Seven horses pulling outward in different directions puts enormous strain on a single point. What happens to the post?
In Pattern B, each horse is tied to the horse next to it. If Horse 3 tries to run, Horse 2 and Horse 4 pull it back. Every horse holds every other horse — a loop can hold any number of animals, odd or even!

🎇 Puzzle 10 — The Mega-Combo Finale

Nope! All three choices are correct. This is the grand finale — you've earned the right to choose how it ends. Pick whichever option makes you happiest and enjoy the fireworks!
Really, all three options lead to THE END. Go with the one that sounds the most spectacular to you. (Though "ALL AT ONCE" is admittedly very on-brand for Confusington.)
